Sorry as we are under construction for our Black Herefords. Our Normande cattle have been all sold adn we are building our new herd of Black Hereford Cattle. We will have our new babies in the spring iof 2012 and we look forward to see them playing in the grass pastures of WI
Welcome to C R Cattle and for taking a look at our beginning of Black Herefords Cattle. We are producing Black Hereford Genetics for the future and we really like to talk to people who want to know more about the "Black Hereford Breed" known as the "Color You Can Count On". By using a registered Black Hereford bull on a set of black commercial cows, you can eliminate red baldie calves. Almost all sale barns in America will pull red and red baldie calves off a set of calves from the same herd and sell the blacks and black baldie calves for more money. Red Herefords and red baldie calves will generally sell a 5 to 15 cents per pound discount (as noted on the American Black Hereford Association web site). Black Hereford Genetics will make an excellent outcross to make your next set of feeder cattle. They are quiet, fast growing cattle and have great Carcass Quality. The Calves are vigorous at birth, get up and get to momma for the first meal in no time. The Bulls are great breeders and have great feet and leg structure to get around any terrain.
A statement in the 2012 J & N Ranch Sale Catalog by Joe Hoagland
We have reached the point where Black Hereford cattle sell themselves. Never has a breed been so perfectly situated in the beef industry. Herefords, in general, are in great demand for two reasons. First, consider rising feed costs. Herefords have among the lowest feed conversion rates. Second, consider the
use of Angus on Angus genetics and the decline of hybrid vigor. Herefords boost vigor and eliminate the onset of recessive genetic defects in Angus cattle by cross-breeding. However, Black Herefords add even more to Hereford demand. When used on black-hided cows, they produce offspring that qualify for market premiums by eliminating red baldies. Black hair color is the entry requirement for many value-based marketing programs. That is why the number of black-hided cattle doubled from 1995 to 2010. Today, two out of every three cattle on feed are black-hided. The USDA says that number will increase to 75% by 2015. Perhaps more importantly there is now proof that Black Herefords have superior carcass quality when compared to calves out of Angus based cows, sired by traditional red Hereford bulls. Studies
have shown the percentage of choice or better carcasses increase from 52% to 71% using a Black Hereford bull. When you consider the choice-select price difference, now that Wal-Mart has specified
only choice grade for their stores, the increased ability to grade choice is a huge advantage. The purpose of a Black Hereford is to advance Hereford genetics in an animal with better color and better carcass quality. Thanks for your business.
